RAMLink Info RAMLink is multi-purpose interface for both the Commodore 64 and 128. RAMLink plugs directly into the expansion port (cartridge port) of these machines. RAMLink will allow you to use your current RAM expander, RAMCard, or a combination of both as if it were a standard disk drive attached to your system. Software for configuring, partitioning, copying files and whole disks, and GEOS compatibility will be included. Compatible RAM expanders are Commodore 1700, Commodore 1764, Commodore 1750, Berkeley Softworks GEORAM, and PPI/CMD RAMDrive. Quick Brown Box static RAM units cannot be used in the RAM port, but may be used in the pass-thru port. RAMLink will also contain an autoboot feature for both 64 and 128 computers which will allow booting of any file located on any device and drive. RAMLink will include a complete users manual for RAMLink and a JiffyDOS users manual. RAMLink is compatible with most cartridges via the Pass-Thru port, though it may not be compatible with all functions or features of the cartridge. RAMLink is not compatible with the Schnedler Turbo Master CPU or the Xetec Lt. Kernal Host Adaptor. RAMLink Features ---------------- * Separate external power supply * Pass-Thru port for connection of utility or I/O cartridges * RAM port for connection of Commodore 17xx series REUs, GEORAM, or RAMDrive * Parallel port for connection to th CMD HD series of hard drives * Battery port for connection of optional battery-backup unit * Internal memory port for connection of optional CMD RAMCard * SWAP 8 and SWAP 9 switches for easy device number swapping * Reset switch to allow resetting of the computer * Normal/Direct switch to allow using RAM devices via RAMLink or directly * Activity, Access, SWAP 8, SWAP 9 and Error indicators * Enable/Disable switch to allow you to disable RAMLink without disconnecting * Built-in RAMLink Disk Operating ystem (RL DOS) to allow use of RAM as a disk drive * Built-in JiffyDOS kernal routines to allow fast access to JiffyDOS equipped disk drives RL DOS (RAMLink DOS) Features ----------------------------- * Supports all standard Commodore DOS commands, including direct access commands and job queue codes * High speed file access routines, up to 20 times faster than Commodore's RAMDOS * Supports partitioning of RAM into several logical drives (up to 32) * Partitions may defined to emulate physical drive types (1541, 1571, 1581) or may be CMD Native types. * Native partitions may contain up to 16 Mb and support true subdirectories * Software command may be used to disable JiffyDOS routines RAMLink's Optional RAMCard -------------------------- RAMCard is an internal RAM expansion board which may be plugged into RAMLink. This allows you to use RAMLink as a stand-alone RAM disk without any other type of RAM expansion unit. RAMCard may also be combined with other RAM expanders to allow you to have additional RAM. This allows for the widest flexibility in your system. If you have, for instance, a 1750 REU and RAMCard with 1 Mb, you may configure your system so that when the Normal/Direct switch is in Normal mode, you have 1.5 Mb of total RAM disk storage. If you switch to Direct mode you will have 1 Mb of RAM disk and can use your REU with software which recognizes it as an REU. It's contents will still be power-backed by RAMLink's power supply, or battery-backed by the optional battery unit. RAMCard uses industry standard SIMMs (Single Inline Memory Modules). Four SIMM sockets are provided and can accommodate either the 1Mbx8 or 4Mbx8 SIMMs, giving total capacities of 4 Mb (using 4 1Mbx8 SIMMs) or 16 Mb (using 4 4Mbx8 SIMMs). RAMLink's Optional Battery Backup Unit -------------------------------------- The RAMLink Battery Backup Unit will allow the contents of any RAM installed in the RAM port or on RAMCard to be preserved in case of power failure. A charging circuit is contained in RAMLink to keep the battery charged whenever RAMLink is switched on. The battery can preserve RAM contents for short durations only, from 6 to 23 hours depending on the amount and type of RAM installed. Warranty on all of these products is 90 days from date shipped.
