ELECTRONIC MAIL ON THIS SYSTEM Users of this system can send 'private' networked Electronic mail (E-Mail) messages to users on remote TFNet,TCN, and Internet Systems. First, a few words on the important subject of E-Mail privacy. The term 'private' as used here distinguishes such messages as not appearing in the Public message areas. Networked E-mail is delivered to remote recipients in a manner similar to E-mail between local users of this system, but there are differences as described below. The remote recipients receive and respond to Networked E-MAIL in a manner similar to the user-to-user Electronic mail system used by the BBS they have an account on. Please understand the there is no such thing as truly private E-Mail - The sysops (and possibly co-sysops) of this system and other networked systems participating in the transfer of messages can (and often do) read the contents of E-mail residing on or passing through their systems. Since there can be an unlimited number of such systems participating in the delivery of your messages, the opportunities for outsiders reading your messages are real. More secure E-mail routing could be made available if users were made to pay the entire costs of long distance calls needed to deliver their messages directly to the receiving systems. Even in those cases, sysops (and possibly co-sysops) of the two systems sending and receiving the message can still read it. Here's the typical "Legal-eez" regarding EMAIL (both local and remote): In accordance with the ELECTRONIC PRIVACY ACT OF 1986, 18 U.S.C. 2510 2511 et seq. the SYSOP does give NOTICE to ALL USERS that the messages you leave for others on this BBS must be considered as PUBLIC MESSAGES by you, the user. This is true, notwithstanding the fact that the system indicates that there is a way to make messages private. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IT IS NOT REPRESENTED TO USERS NOR CAN IT IN ANY WAY GUARANTEED ANY PRIVACY OF ANY MESSAGES LEFT ON THIS SYSTEM. ALL USERS ARE SO ADVISED AND WARNED OF SUCH FACT. If you have need of sending truly private messages then you should consider alternate means of communications. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All mail left on this system can be reviewed by the SYSOP to determine if their content could be considered either illegal or excessively offensive. For this reason NO ONE can assume that messages here are PRIVATE. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Continued use of this system by you will be construed by the SYSOPs that you have read, understand and agree that all messages which you leave on this system will constitute PUBLIC MESSAGES and no privacy within the meaning of 18 U.S.C. 2510, 2511 et seq or under any other relevant statute, regulation, or othewise implied. The system operator(s) do have the ability to read mail and check mailboxes for illegal materials. Sending TNet Mail: The technique for sending Internet EMAIL is very similare to that used to send Fidonet EMAIL except that you would substiute the receipients TFNet address for his Fidonet address, and leave off the ".FidoNet part" of the address. An example using my address is: To: headgap@headgap.tfnet.org A User who logs into the system as "your name" has an address: your_name.headgap.tfnet.org (spaces are converted to underscores by TF.) Sending Internet Mail: The technique for sending Internet EMAIL is identical to that used to send TFnet EMAIL except that you would substitute the recipients Internet address for his TFNet address. For example my address is: headgap@headgap.com A User who logs into the system as "your name" has an address: your_name@headgap.com (spaces are converted to underscores by TF.)
