Personal Web Pages Would you like to have your own Web Page and be on the Internet? This system allows you to have your own personal page at no charge to you. All you have to do is leave me E-mail (headgap@headgap.com) asking for it and I will add access to your account. You must access your mail box via the Telefinder Client Software or Telnet. In your mail folder will appear a folder called Web Space. All you do is place your completed html (or spml) page and graphic files in this folder. On a Mac you simply drag each file to the web space folder. Make sure your main page is named homepage.html, or homepage.htm, or if they are active pages homepage.spml or homepage.spm Your page's address will be: http://www.headgap.com/~user_name/ Replace the user_name with your system name. Make sure you include the tilde ~ before your user_name and the backslash is after the end of your name. (Examples: Vincent Hong would be http://www.headap.com/~Vincent_Hong/ or Wintermute would be http://www.headap.com/~Wintermute/) Presently there is no set limit on how big your web pages can be (please keep it reasonable). Do keep in mind though that if you make your graphics too large nobody will view your pages, so keep the sizes reasonable. If your site draws an inordinate amount of traffic it will be removed. I have no set rules as to content, but keep it clean, I don't want any politicians getting elected using my system as an example of Internet smut. Remember this is a free personal web page(s) and not a complete internet service for a company. Business sites including database serving are available for reasonable fees. I have added a few .cgi features that you can call from your pages. Right now finger.cgi is running so you can add finger commands to your pages. You can also use "active pages" or SPML (also called SSI). You can read more about SPML from my homepage. The coding used will work for other computer types as well. I have a fair amount of expertise on html programming and will help you if I can. I am mostly self taught from a book (Learn HTML Programming in 10 Minutes) and horking ideas from other pages. Running this system has helped a bit as well. Drop me a note if you need help adding counters to your pages. I recommend that you at least read about SPML from my web page and download the templates in the Mac Internet area. These are text files and will work on any system once uncompressed.
