Rusty Tucker hola!
Rick Palmer joined the chat.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the chat Rick!
Bob Nunn : Hey!
Ken Sutherland joined the chat.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the chat Ken!
Ken Sutherland : hiho
Rick Palmer : ks did everything go ok on the domain?
Rusty Tucker been having some problems with the listserv here, sorry for the
dup. messages
Ken Sutherland : they just cut me off, am about to call em
Rick Palmer : I paid them
Ken Sutherland : Rusty, remember I run a list also, if you want a list here,
just ask
Ken Sutherland : thanks
Rick Palmer : that was several days ago
Rusty Tucker I'll get it straightened out...
Ken Sutherland : brb, on the phone
Rusty Tucker may need to run eims or something to relay, Netcom's mail
server does not like long lists of names :(
Rick Palmer : RT I saw a PowerKey tickler...does it do a hard reboot or a
soft
Rusty Tucker It depends on how you define the "Application Timer" in the
PowerKey
Rick Palmer : are there docs at PowerKey....?
Rick Palmer : what ever the name of the company is..
Rusty Tucker I think so... at least there are for the Application Timer.
Rusty Tucker Sophisticated Circuits
Rick Palmer : right
Bob Nunn : PowerKey is from Sophisticated.com I own two of them.
Rick Palmer : me too...love them
Jim Smith joined the chat.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the chat Jim!
Ken Sutherland : not for sale in U.K., s far as I know
Rick Palmer : I order from them directly
Bob Nunn : Wrong voltage? Perhaps you could help them bust into the market.
Don't know that they have a UK version.
Bob Nunn : Anybody running Ascend Routers and ever upgrade them?
Rick Palmer : I use Timbuktu and can login remote-kill the power to any
machine on the network...use intermapper and page now to contact me by
pager....pretty slick
Bob Nunn : I haven't tried the search features on the docs yet... Was E.G.
hard to set up?
Rusty Tucker I was going to make a web plug-in to control that stuff...
didn't know it there'd be a market
Rusty Tucker E.G. is pretty easy to setup
Rusty Tucker use the older version though
Rusty Tucker you need to enter the paths your self since TeleFinder is not
MacHTTP
Rusty Tucker its automated setup is hardcoded to look for Web *
Rusty Tucker kinda sux
Bob Nunn : I think I kept a couple of versions around on my system. Never
played with them much.
Rusty Tucker for me, it was just a matter of setting 2 paths. one to the web
space, the other to the docs folder.
Rusty Tucker There are still problems in that it will leak memory while
reindexing, so I have the automatic reindex turned off.
Rusty Tucker It works, but has very limited customizability
Rusty Tucker The search field on the docs page is simply:
Rusty Tucker
Rusty Tucker I just pegged some of the values using hidden fields to
simplify the form.
Ken Sutherland : .
Ken Sutherland : does anyone use CyberStudio?
Rusty Tucker I've tried DreamWeaver, and Claris Homepage ( for the new docs
). The 30 day demo was just perfect! :)
Bob Nunn : I have CybersStudio 3.1 and the manual is in the bathroom. I am
on chapter 4.
Rusty Tucker I like the simplicity of Homepage. Generates decent html too.
Ken Sutherland : go have a curry and get to chapter 6
Bob Nunn : My favorite is Homepage since it is easy and works with FMPro. I
use Cyber to build graphic tables and frames that I import into Homepage.
Rusty Tucker Why CybersStudio?
Ken Sutherland : is very cool, complete site support
Rusty Tucker ic
Bob Nunn : It probably is the best thing going.
Ken Sutherland : want to get it to support spml
Bob Nunn : Them Krauts has brains.
Rusty Tucker Strange that none of the support Server Side Includes to any
extent.
Ken Sutherland : get in there then
Rusty Tucker There should be a way to emulate the server side extensions in
the editor
Ken Sutherland : ill upload the latest 3.1.1 demo for you to try, is great
Rusty Tucker but none of the editors I have seen support plug-ins,
Rusty Tucker does Cyber?
Bob Nunn : I built a library to work with Homepage but I couldn't get it
work consistently. It worked fine on the machine I built it on but wouldn't
work with other sites.
Ken Sutherland : not really sure, its very detailed
Bob Nunn : Probably in chapter 57.
Rusty Tucker That's probably why MS FrontPage is poopular, it has ASP
support in the editor.
Ken Sutherland : would be worth you spending a day on to have a look
Bob Nunn : The manual is as think as a drive case.
Bob Nunn : thick
Bob Nunn : I think poopular is a good word to associate with FrontPage.
Rusty Tucker Plug-in support would be pretty obvious in the program
Bob Nunn : ;-)
Rusty Tucker ic :)
Bob Nunn : I had to convert a site from FrontPage to work on TF.
Bob Nunn : BRB have an interviewee coming in.
Rusty Tucker I found a site today that has an ASP based Guest book, the end
result is identical to the SPML Guest book,
Rusty Tucker but about 5x more complex to code.
Rusty Tucker what is cyber's web site?
Ken Sutherland : 2 ticks
Ken Sutherland : golive.com
Rusty Tucker I keep getting "no data"
Ken Sutherland : please, rusty c if you can work a way of implementing spml,
you would have yet another sales tool
Ken Sutherland : 3 ticks
Rusty Tucker the main thing is if they have an extensible editor.
Ken Sutherland : sorry, failed, cant find it, will email it for you in a wee
while
Rusty Tucker BBEdit rules for that
Rusty Tucker SPML, especially conditional SPML, is probably too much for an
HTML editor to handle.
Ken Sutherland : www.golive.com
Rusty Tucker But, since the spml commands are in HTML comments, you can at
least edit them using any of the tools.
Ken Sutherland : and I doesn't work, maybe there server is down
Rusty Tucker GoLive is having problems at the moment
Ken Sutherland : should sell em TeleFinder RT.
Ken Sutherland : ?
Rusty Tucker I mean the web site is unreachable
Ken Sutherland : ah
Ken Sutherland : apache, if memory serves me
Rusty Tucker Anyone still running OS 8.1?
Ken Sutherland : me
Ken Sutherland : wimp
Rusty Tucker I got some more reports of TeleFinder Crashing while accessing
the Prefs window
Rusty Tucker all seem to be running 8.1
Ken Sutherland : naw, you got good stable release, go kick there butts
Rusty Tucker seems to be something in the appearance manager blowing up
Ken Sutherland : server has been up 3 weeks between restart
Ken Sutherland : 7500 with 604 200mhz, 128mb ram , running TF, UM, ms, oat
Ken Sutherland : has anyone ever configured a mail server either eims or
other to handle 3 or more mail domains with pop3 access
Rusty Tucker Did you all notice the NNTP client in OS 8.5?
Ken Sutherland : nope
Rusty Tucker It will keep your Mac's clock synched automagically
Jim Smith left the chat.
Rusty Tucker c-ya Jim Smith
Rusty Tucker Its in the Date + Time control panel.
Ken Sutherland : ahh, yup I did
Rusty Tucker + I finally figured out how to change the "Command + Tab"
switching.
Ken Sutherland : ?
Rusty Tucker you need to use the MacOS help, and it will run an AppleScript
to change the key combo
Rusty Tucker 8.5 has a weak form of application switching using command tab.
Ken Sutherland : 8.5 help, over 50mb of html
Rusty Tucker but, unlike Windows, it just cycles through a circular list of
apps,
Rusty Tucker Windows always goes in order of most recently in front.
Rusty Tucker that makes it handy to switch between a couple apps
Ken Sutherland : great, will give it a go
Ken Sutherland : what is memory recommendations for TF 5.7 nowadays
Rick Palmer : I'm still running 8.1
Rusty Tucker Do you have "Appearance Mgr." turned on?
Ken Sutherland : if it ain't bust don't fix it I say
Rusty Tucker memory reqs are the same in 5.7 as 5.6.
Rusty Tucker + TeleFinder Server will tell you how much it needs if you
don't give it enough.
Ken Sutherland : Hey Rick, just bought 'red cap 5.1'
Rick Palmer : 5.1?
Rusty Tucker Linux
Ken Sutherland : red hat, sorry, Linux
Ken Sutherland : indeed, for PC
Rusty Tucker Rick, do you have "Appearance Mgr." turned on?
Rick Palmer : I had some problems with 5.1
Rick Palmer : think it was a memory leak
Rick Palmer : I have the control panel installed
Rick Palmer : I don't think it will run without it ...
Rusty Tucker OK -- what machine are u running?
Rusty Tucker it should run without it.
Rick Palmer : PowerComputing 180
Rusty Tucker ok
Ken Sutherland : confirmed, mine is on, was told not to switch off or system
may not boot
Rick Palmer : I can try...I also have an Apple 7100
Rusty Tucker if you get a chance, break into Macsbug ( command-powerkey )
and run a stdlog.
Ken Sutherland : snap
Rick Palmer : me
Rusty Tucker both would be great, also can you access TF's Preferences
dialog?
Rick Palmer : I'm 40 miles from the server...think I'll wait for that
maneuver
Ken Sutherland : yes
Rusty Tucker no, I'm talking about the TeleFinder client, not the server.
Rick Palmer : yes
Rick Palmer : what to look for?
