Apple has posted a modem script for the iMac which will force it to connect at 33.6 at the iMac support center http://support.info.apple.com/support/imac/index.html
In that script, the following lines appear
write "AT&FE0Q0V1X4&C1&K3S95=1S7=75S0=0+MS=11\13" !write "AT&FE0Q0V1X4&C1&K3S95=1S7=75S0=0\13" <-- Original iMac Modem Init String
Apparently the bottom one is the original init string they used and the top is the revised one
The whole script is much longer than this and I dont have a clue whether this fragment is helpful to you or not--I dont know if they mean the same thing by "init string" as yuou do. Anyhow..this is what I saw there.
