This tidbit is from:

Darrin Blankenship, <djb67@primenet.com>

I just read this great iMac review on the Arizona Republic's web
site--The Republic was not well known for their Mac coverage until
recently when they debuted a whole new section devoted to the ultimate
computer. Check it out, you'll see what I mean.

<http://www.azcentral.com/computing/news/mac/downsimac.shtml>

The author compares the iMac to Wintel boat anchors costing more than
twice as much and has an irrefuteable answer for the "no-floppy," and
"ONLY a 33.6K modem" questions.

The four leading iMac sites have teamed up informally to create the iMac
Ring <http://www.mactimes.com/imac/ring.html> to promote the iMac and
each other. Member sites are:

- - iMac iNfo <http://imac.macguys.com/>>, established 5 May 1998
- - the iMac channel <http://www.mactimes.com/imac/>>, begun 6 June 1998
- - iMac2Day <http://www.iMac2Day.com/>>, started on 9 June 1998
- - the iMac.com <http://www.theimac.com/>>, launched 19 June 1998

Member sites have agreed to include links to each other's home pages as
well as content on each others sites, helping prevent a lot of
unnecessary duplication.

If you'd like to learn more about the iMac, be sure to visit our member

Think Different Poster and CD Giveaway

Elfin Music Company <http://www.elfin-music.company> is pleased to
announce that their new web site with secure online ordering and
RealAudio clips is now online.

To celebrate, we're giving away a set of Apple's Series One Think
Different posters and 5 signed copies of Ed Van Fleet's Migration. For
details, visit the site and go to the Contest area.

On the contest page, there's an interesting blurb on the Mac Plus that
was used on Migration, and is still used in the studio today. Not only is
the Plus still usable, but with no fan, no hard drive, and a boot disk
crammed with a MIDI desk accessory and AppleTalk, it's the only computer
for the job.

Elfin is a Sarasota, Florida based all-Mac record company with a Mac
based 32 track direct to disk recording studio. When you visit the site,
be sure to check out the studio which is now available for public
bookings.

Applelinks Review: Gridz 1.2

<http://applelinks.pair.com/reviews/gridzreview.shtml>

This is a different kind of game: nobody shoots projectiles or rips an
enemy's head off. All the work is done by "toolbots" that players release
(after "buying" them with accumulated energy) to roam around and make
things happen. Territory is captured and domains expanded without any
blood, but with a whole lot of industrial noise. Don't say I didn't warn
you!

Subject: ?? - Need Mac Dental Software

This request is from:

Brian White, <bwhite@moddog.com>

My wife (a Mac user) is being advised by her dental consultant to
purchace PC's and Window's based dental office/management software for
her new practice. I know that there are some Mac based programs
available, but I'm not sure if I've found them all and most importantly
I'd like to hear from some dentists who are currently using a Mac program
and can say that it meets all their needs. She's waiting to see the
results of my research before making her decision, so if there's anyone
out there that can help, we'd sure appreciate it. Thanks!

Subject: PR - USB to ADB for iMacs

This announcement is from:

Jason Litchford, <media@griffintechnology.com>

Griffin Technology, Inc. today announced the iMate USB to ADB adapter
which allows users to take advantage of any ADB device on newer iMac
models. Until now users of the upcoming iMac systems would be restricted
to the included Apple mouse and keyboard. The iMate opens an entire world
of standard ADB devices to iMac users including mice, keyboards,
trackballs, joystics, trackpads. Future support also will include other
ADB devices such as dongles and Applevision displays.

At $29.00, Griffin Technology's iMate adapter will offer a great solution
for all Macintosh computer users. The adapter is fully compliant with all
Apple and third party ADB devices. ADB devices can be daisy chained just
as can be done on current Macs. And users are not restricted to just ADB.
USB keyboards and ADB devices can be mixed and matched. The iMate will
ship in mid August in time for the Apple iMac rollout.

Apple has made a strategic and revolutionary change in the computer
industry by being the first to only support USB input devices. Apple has
also said that future Macs will also only support USB and that ADB will
be phased out in future models. The iMate will ease the transition period
by offering a large number of compatibility options immediately for users.

The iMate adapter will be compatible with the iMac computers scheduled to
ship in August as well as all Mac models with a PCI slot using the
Griffin Technology Power USB card. It will also be compatible with future
Mac models with built in USB ports. It can additionally be used with any
PC equipped with a USB port and Windows 98 making it the perfect Mac/PC
connectivity product.

Since 1992, Griffin Technology has been an innovator of exciting hardware
and software products for the Mac market. Griffin currently manufactures
numerous innovative video and audio adapters for the Mac. They also
maintain the world's largest database of monitor specifications at
www.nashville.net/~griffin/monitor.html.

For Dealer and OEM pricing, Griffin Technology Corporation can be reached
at (615) 255-0990 or by fax at (615) 255-8040. For more information check

Subject: PR - ClearWay Announces Two New Free Webstar Plug-Ins

Keyword: Market by market, Internet

This announcement is from:

Susan Marlett, <marlett@clearway.com>

ClearWay Technologies today announced the release of two new free
plug-ins for WebSTAR-compatible Web servers: "ClearWay Simple Cache
Manager 2.0" and "FireSite SSI_PIXO Adapter 1.0". Both plug-ins are
available immediately at no cost, as a service to the Mac Webmaster
community.

ClearWay Simple Cache Manager 2.0

On a busy Web server, RAM caching can help performance, but it may also
sometimes result in "stale" files being cached by the server. For over a
year, thousand Webmasters have used ClearWay Simple Cache Manager 1.0 to
help keep the RAM caches "in sync" with the latest Web site changes. Now
CSCM Version 2.0 includes a customizable results page that the Webmaster
can use to publish tips, late breaking news, helpful hyperlinks, or
banner ads. CSCM 2.0 is free and available from:

<http://www.clearway.com/CSCM/>

FireSite SSI_PIXO Adapter 1.0

Most modern WebSTAR "SSI-style" plug-ins, such as NetCloak and
WebCatalog, support the PIXO standard for high-speed communication
between plug-ins. And while WebSTAR 3.0 includes a popular new "SSI"
plug-in, it does not support the industry-standard PIXO interface, and
therefore runs at a reduced speed when called from FireSite or NetCloak.
The "FireSite SSI_PIXO Adapter" is an independent WebSTAR plug-in that
adds a high level of PIXO support to WebSTAR SSI, allowing it to perform
at top speed through the PIXO interface. The FireSite SSI_PIXO Adapter is
free and available from:

Subject: PR - Troi Dialog Plug-In, Coding Plug-In and Text Plug-In Released

This announcement is from:

Peter Baanen, <peter@troi.nl>

Alphen a/d Rijn, The Netherlands, July 17, 1998,

Troi Automatisering announces the availability of 3 new versions of
FileMaker plug-ins: Troi Dialog Plug-in 1.2, Troi Coding Plug-in 1.1.1
and Troi Text Plug-in 1.2, for FileMaker Pro 4.0 both on Macintosh and
Windows.

Troi Text Plug-in 1.2 --------------------- This plug-in already added
the dynamic SumText, ANDText and XORText functions. This is the enhanced
functionality:

- - UniqueLines function: get all the lines that are the same in a text
field. - UniqueWords function: returns all the unique words of a text
field. - SortLines function: sorts the lines in a text fielded
alphabetically. - GetLine function: gets one line of a text field, by
specifying a line number.

Troi Coding Plug-in 1.1.1 ------------------------- In this version of
our DES encryption plug-in the startup flash screen is removed, so that
you can startup more quickly. No other functionality was added.

Troi Dialog Plug-in 1.2 ----------------------- This plug-in could
already show dynamic user dialogs and progress bars. In this version
we've enhanced the functionality with the following.

- - Set input text: All the input dialogs now can be set with a pre-entered
text value. - Added User name and Password dialog: enables a user to type
in a name and a password. - Added support for international characters:
The dialogs now show text using international characters like (o slash)
and (a ring) correctly on Windows.

Carsten Warnich, a Danish developer of FileMaker Databases, said about
the new international character support in the Dialog Plug-in: "Now all
the etc. comes out just as we Danes know and love them! Might seem a bit
funny that we are so dependant on these awkward characters - but we
simply can't do without them."

Peter Baanen, company president, states that "We continue to add powerful
functionality to our plug-ins, based of users feedback. In all plug-ins
we've now removed the startup flash screen, so that you can startup more
quickly".

We invite you to test drive the new functions and see what _you_ can do
with it! A fully functional try-before-you-buy versions of all our 5
plug-ins are available for downloading at Troi's Web site at:

Troi Dialog Plug-in and Coding Plug-in costs $20 each. Upgrade for all
current users of Troi FM Plug-in 1.0 and Troi Dialog Plug-in 1.1 or Troi
Coding plug-in 1.0 is free. Troi Text Plug-in 1.2 costs $17. Upgrade for
all current users of Troi Text Plug-in is free. Details on developer
licenses and multi-user discounts can be found on our web site.
