Date: Tue, 9 Mar 1999 02:05:30 -0800 From: The EvangeList Mailing List <evangelist@apple.com> Subject: ?? - Radio Modem Software
This request is from:
Mark Wright <mailto:mpwright@earthlink.net>
I have a friend who lives on the Mosquito coast of Honduras. Litteraly on the beach. He communicates to the outside world through a 300 baud modem that plugs into his shortwave and converts his email into shortwave packets. He is using a 520C powerbook. The only software he can find to operate this is very combersome. He would like to use a program he has seen for PeeCee's called Air Mail. This program lets him address email to multiple recipients and forward. (high tech huh?) When you run your house off car batteries and bath in a lagoon you take life as it comes.
Can anyone direct me to a packet radio program that will run on a 68040 Mac that can bring these modern features to my buddies powerbook?
Any programmers know enough about how radio modems and packet radio work to write something simple?

This request is from:
John Phipps <mailto:jphipps@airmail.net>
We are currently doing development work with MatLab, an excellent and powerful engineering and scientific product for analyzing problems mathematically and graphically. Until now, MatLab was available for both the Mac and PC. Unfortunately, MathWorks have announced that the Mac will no longer be getting new revisions, leaving us with the need to see what else might be out there.
Does anyone know of another cross platform product for graphically analyzing data, from data access to presentation-quality output? We do all our development on the Mac, but need to also deploy on a PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Of course, another option would be to open up the flood gates for all the Evangelistas to request continued support of our favorite platform (if you have a need). Requests to MathWorks can be made at:
<mailto:info@mathworks.com >

Date: Tue, 9 Mar 1999 02:05:20 -0800 From: The EvangeList Mailing List <evangelist@apple.com> Subject: PR - Release of TalkToMe! V1.0
This announcement is from:
Doug Jacobson <mailto:jacobson@pop.c-com.net>
TalkToMe! is a communications tool for people who can no longer speak. It uses Apple's excellent Text-To-Speech capability to simulate speech, and allows you to store common words and phrases for two-click speaking (one click to select the phrase, one click to speak it). It is ideal for people with neurodegenerative diseases like ALS who have lost their ability to speak, but whose minds remain sharp as ever.
You can type the text into the text field, paste it in, or use an on-screen keypad to "click" it in. Once entered, you can "speak" the text by hitting return or clicking the Speak button. If you would like to save the phrase, you may store it in any of your user-defined categories. TalkToMe! comes with 6 categories, which may be modified to suit individual tastes. They are: Bible Verses, Common Words, Jokes, Poems, Prayers, and Sayings. Additional categories may be added up to the limit of 100.
Requirements * MacOS computer with a 68020 processor or greater, including Power PC. * 4 MB of application RAM (8 MB is preferable). * MacOS 7.0 or greater.
StoneTablet Publishing today announced the release of StoneTable Version 4.0. This release provides a major step forward giving the Macintosh developer access to functionality never before available on the Macintosh platform in a simple and easy form for integration into their applications. Building upon an API similar to that used by the List Manager, StoneTable now provides nearly 250 functions and dozens of options (color, fonts, styles, titles, grid lines, etc.) to the developer to display a wide range of data (text, check boxes, pop up menus, twist down lists, application defined data, etc.) in a simple and consistent way. Applications using StoneTable provide their users a natural interface similar to that found in major spreadsheet applications or other applications that display data in tables.
StoneTable has been used by developers worldwide since 1992 and is the standard for displaying tables from within applications. It may be used within Metrowerks CodeWarrior C/C++ or Pascal applications or with PowerPlant using a provided class similar to the PowerPlant LTable class. A comprehensive manual is provided along with sample applications and source snippets.
StoneTable Version 4.0 is available for $200.00 (which is the same price of prior versions) directly from StoneTablet Publishing or from Developer Depot.
Additional information about StoneTable and a demo available for download maybe found at http://www.teleport.com/~stack or via e-mail stack@teleport.com.

Date: Tue, 9 Mar 1999 02:05:58 -0800 From: The EvangeList Mailing List <evangelist@apple.com> Subject: PR - PowerLogix Ships 466 Mhz Upgrade
This announcement is from:
Robin Sharp <mailto:robin@powerlogix.com>
PowerLogix today announced the shipment of new models of the award-winning line of PowerForce G3 processor upgrades. Following IBM's announcement today of their 466 MHz PowerPC 750 (G3) chip, the PowerForce G3 ZIF 466 is now the fastest processor available for Power Macintosh.
Full reviews of production models of PowerForce G3 466 are available now at <http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G3CARDS/PF466ZIF/review.html> and <http://www.macintouch.com/g3zif466.html>.
The PowerForce G3 ZIF 466 includes 1 Mb of backside cache rated at 233MHz. Compatible with all PowerMac G3s, including the new "Blue & White" G3s as well as the G3 "All-in-One", the G3 466 brings Macintosh performance to levels unavailable from Apple or any other vendor.
The PowerForce G3 ZIF 466 operates with a variable bus ratio so it will work flawlessly in original ("beige") PowerMac G3s with 66 MHz, or in the new "Blue & White" G3s with 100 MHz bus. Because of the high speed of the backside cache, there is no appreciable performance difference between a 466 ZIF installed in a beige G3 or in a B&W G3. This makes the 466 a great value for owners of beige G3s.
The PowerForce G3 ZIF 466 will operate at 466 MHz in beige G3s. Due to the architecure of the B&W G3, it will operate at either 450 or 500 MHz in those machines.
Configurations, Performance and Pricing
PowerForce G3 ZIF 333/222/1Mb $689 PowerForce G3 ZIF 366/183/1Mb $679 PowerForce G3 ZIF 400/200/1Mb $899 PowerForce G3 ZIF 466/233/1Mb $1399
All PowerForce G3 ZIF models are shipping but the 466 model will be limited in availability for the first month.
