This request is from:
Stephen Griffith <mailto:sg@sgriffith.com>
My daughter is graduating from college this Spring. At Christmas during our annual UPGRADE THE FAMILY MACS time (it looked like a PowerBook convention on our kitchen table--1 -2300, 3 -3400s and a G3), my daughter spoke of her memories of third grade (13 years ago) when she would come home and play "Snake" on our Classic Mac. I would love to find this game and give it to her as a graduation gift. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

This tidbit is from:
Deborah <mailto:dharkins@loveamac.com>
A few months ago Jason Tanz from Smart Money Magazine posted to the list and asked about Evangelical activities. Some of us (me included!) were interviewed for the article. Well the article is in the February issue (pg. 116) and it is very funny. Take a look - it is great to see a positive feature story about Apple advocacy in an finance magazine (though we are depicted as being just a little crazy). __________________________ Digital Guy Sez:
I know a large number of you are wondering why it took me so long to post this tidbit... well, I wanted to read the article first to make sure Jason spelt my name right. He did, so here it is.
For the record I don't mind being a "little crazy"... It's a lot more fun than the alternative. ;-)

This action item is from:
Mike Yocom <mailto:pfhreak333@hotmail.com>
Pfhreak's Game Page is conducting an online poll. Email the official Pfhreak's Game Page webmaster at <pfhreak333@geocities.com> with "Game Poll" as the subject. Send in
1. the name of your favorite game 2. your name (for record keeping purposes) 3. whether you would classify yourself as a "Mac Game Fanatic", a "Dedicated Mac Gamer", or a "Casual Mac Gamer", and 4. someplace that Pfhreak can go to find out more about the game (such as which genre it would belong under).
The Mac is THE platform for gaming, let's prove it by casting our votes for the all-time best Mac games. The more people vote the more proof there is of the numbers of people who want to see good Mac games.
The results of the poll tallies will be posted on Pfhreak's Game Page <http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Realm/7408> and to the EvangeList.
I think that it goes without saying that evangelistas are honest enough to only vote once per person.

This request is from:
Fred McConnell <mailto:fredmc@www.ocl.gwu.edu>
I do basic FileMaker database design for my department, and one of the solutions we have a need for is the ability to do automated room scheduling for summer housing at the University. The head of the summer housing office has had a number of WinDoze products demoed for her, many of which have seemed to me to be "vaporware".
As it stands now, we have in place the ability to record and bill summer residents based on their location and duration of stay, all set up in FileMaker Pro. That's the easy part. The hard part, which I don't have enough experience in FileMaker to even attempt, is the ability to take a prospective resident, enter their requested duration of stay into a query of some kind, then scan through all the spaces available for one that fits their particular needs. I don't know if that is something that can even be done in FileMaker, but if it can be, or if someone has already designed a solution that we can integrate with our existing one, that would be fabulous to know.

Date: Mon, 22 Feb 1999 02:06:11 -0800 From: The EvangeList Mailing List <evangelist@apple.com> Subject: PR - MacHackFinal Call For Papers; Early Registration Discount Ending
This announcement is from:
Warren Magnus <mailto:sponsorship@machack.com>
March 1, 1999, is the final deadline for paper proposals and abstracts for the 1999 edition of MacHack, the Annual Conference for Leading Edge Developers.
If your paper is accepted, it will be published in the official Machack proceedings, and you'll get to present it to an audience of the best software developers in the world. You'll also attend the conference free! (Well, not completely free. Conference registration is free for the authors of accepted papers, but you'll have to get to Detroit and pay your own hotel bill.)
MacHack solicits and accepts papers on a wide variety of topics related to Macintosh software development. For example, the subjects of last year's papers ranged from cross-platform development techniques, to anonymity in internet communications, to exception-handling strategies on the Macintosh, to macroscopic object architectures. Each paper accepted is published in the MacHack Conference proceedings and included on the MacHack CD. Each author gives a 50-minute presentation on his paper during the conference.
Although there are no hard limits, a MacHack paper generally runs from 2000 to 3500 words. Anything that will interest a few hundred of the best Macintosh programmers in the world is a possible subject. Remember that you are writing to a "hands-on" audience -- we strongly encourage the inclusion of supporting code samples. And remember that, although a good MacHack paper might describe a clever and innovative way to use a product, a paper which contains overt marketing will be flatly rejected.
The last moment is coming soon! Grab this opportunity to put your ideas in front of the people best qualified to understand them! Attend the world's foremost Mac developer conference at no charge! Revolutionize the software-development industry! Save the world! And as a bonus -- if you're a Macintosh programmer, attending MacHack is just about the most fun you can have in three days!
So submit your paper proposals, ideas, and outlines today to <mailto:machack-papers@machack.com>.
Established and professional developers should note that the $100 savings on attendance expires on February 28. Registrants wishing to take advantage of the specially priced registration package or register as a student attendee should visit the conference website <http://www.machack.com/>. Secure registration is available.
MacHack is a conference that, in its fourteenth year, remains centered around cutting edge software development. Each year the conference brings together well-known names in the software business, as well as many students and upstarts whose names we'll know soon enough, and fosters interaction between all of the attendees. MacHack's uniqueness derives from the informal feel of the conference and the LIVE coding that occurs around-the-clock during the conference.
The 1999 MacHack conference will take place June 23-26 in Dearborn, Michigan. Topics for the 1999 conference include networking, rapid application and cross platform development. MacHack is a registered trademark of Expotech, Inc. MacHack is not affiliated with The MacHax Group, although the Hack Contest seems to keep happening each and every year! Apple is a registered trademark of Apple Computer, Inc.

Date: Mon, 22 Feb 1999 02:05:43 -0800 From: The EvangeList Mailing List <evangelist@apple.com> Subject: Followup - Networked Sales Database Query
This follow-up message is from:
Barbara Masin <mailto:eidltd@sb.net>
Thank you for your truly overwhelming support. I received over 200 e-mails in the last week with recommendations for various lead management and sales automation programs. There were also nineteen inquiries from other evangelistas who said they were also looking for software of this type and requested feedback via the List.
So, here goes... I stand corrected - NOW UP TO DATE and CONTACT do in fact have the capability to function on a network. One respondent pointed out that you don't get the option to install the server unless you choose "custom install" (which I hadn't)... At the website <http://www.qualcomm.com/eudora/uptodate> you can download a demo version. Unfortunately, Qualcomm is the new owner, and several respondents commented that the next generation Mac version of this software (a package called PLANNER) has been languishing in beta version for a long time with no completion date in site.
Another frequently mentioned program (which appropriately enough was posted in EVANGELIST along with my inquiry)... was Territory Manager. Their website is at <http://www.macapp.com>.
A very nice looking program which is stronger on the calendar features/time management side than on the contact management side is Chronos' CONSULTANT: A demo version can be found at their website <http://www.chronosnet.com>
Superoffice, a UK company with a US subsidiary has put together a comprehensive program including project management features and a scheduling component. They have a tour set up at their website: <http://www.superoffice.com/US/concept.htm> Someone pointed out that the February issue of the UK publication Mac Format has a demo disk which includes a demo version of this package.
A Danish language contact manager is available via: <http://www.tingberg.dk/products/big/beta/>
A comprehensive software package for sales operations recommended by several people is 7Office. It incorporates contact management, correspondence, scheduling, invoicing, POs, inventory and pricing. You can visit the company's website at <http://www.7Office.com>
Another comprehensive office solution for small and mid-size companies in sales is Big Business' software, which includes accounting, inventory, purchasing and contact management in one program. <http://www.bigbusiness.com>
A comprehensive office package in a modular format is the Bizbasics software which incorporates contact management, job tracking and shipping modules along with an accounting solution. <http://www.bizbasics.net>
A sales lead tracking program for mid-size businesses is isales' database. - Unfortunately I wasn't able to check this one out because it requires a ppc to run... and we don't have our imacs yet :< You can see their website at: <http://www2.isales.com/eplindex.html>
There are three database engines with active developer communities which should be considered in any search. You can visit the websites of the database companies and click to their listings of affiliated developers and consultants which have off-the-shelf and customisable solutions for a broad range of applications.

<http://www.teamsoft.com> (Makers of Team Agenda which is available in a single-user and in a server-client set-up).
<http://www.jitcorp.com> (Makers of THE CUSTOMER, which integrates marketing, sales and operations functions of a business.)
