Review: Tomb Raider II
By Kirk Hiner <http://www.applelinks.com/reviews/tombraider2.shtml >
I don't need to tell you who she is. I don't need to tell you from what game she comes. If you haven't heard of the Tomb Raider series by now, then you should just log off and crawl back to that rock under which you've been hiding. Lara has become such an icon that she's even been a question on "Jeopardy." In fact, the only place Lara hadn't been seen was on the Macintosh. But thanks to Aspyr Media, that no longer holds true.

This follow-up is from:
<mailto:WGraphics1@aol.com>
There have been several requests on this list (including my own!) for information regarding real estate software for the Mac... after lots of searching, I found one that I like and that comes highly recommended. Its designed for FileMaker Pro, and a demo is available at the FileMaker.com website, under 'solutions'. Its called MacAssist + and is developed by Win Singleton in Northern Virginia. All the contact information is available in the demo (although the demo is version 2.1 and the current version is 2.2 ... actually priced $10 less than 2.1)

BTW, Thanks for the EvangeList -- I got my current job through a posting here! (Just when I was coming back from an interview to go over to the dark side, I was saved by the posting. Instead of working for a Microsoft Solutions Provider, I'm now in an all-Mac office with a great work environment! Thanks!

This request is from:
"Jan Pocock" <mailto:jgpocock@mpinet.net>
I respectfully request help of subscribers in my search for "Sales Territory Management Software for Independent or Company Reps." Such a product would include a customer list, catalog, order forms, sales status reports, phone list, notes and all relevant paperwork automatically organized, and structured for enabling automation of sales management functions via electronic commerce.
We are nationwide network of golf reps using a PC based product Escape distributed by Fairway Solutions and produced by Indra Technologies. Our problem is that Indra dissolved in December 1998 just prior to releasing a long awaited version which linked reps and company/companies via electronic commerce.

This tidbit is from:
Hartmut Greiser <mailto:hgreiser@linarte.com>
I have seen some websites with the subject "Old Macs" being mentioned in the Evangelist Digest recently and I'd like to invite the Evangelistas to visit mit website <http://www.linarte.com/mac-markt/> which I have just established.
The page is actually in german but nevertheless I would like to encourage everybody to contribute to this page. The subject is: "What I did to save a dustgathering Apple from being forgotten". I am looking for stories about old machines still doing fine work and expertise in accomplishing just this. So just send your emails to <mailto:>flohmarkt@linarte.com<>. I'll translate them into german.
The other purpose of this website is to help people find old equipment or get in touch with somebody who might be interested in some surplus stuff. The intention is to establish some sort of barter market with no money other than transportation charges involved.

This request is from:
"A. Lee Bennett, Jr." <mailto:bennett@ao.net>
My office uses nifty litle Sharp video projectors for on screen presentations via computer. These projectors have infrared controlers to operate the pointer and click the mouse button. They've even done away with having to install software drivers -- you just plug the IR receiver into the computer's mouse port.
The best part is, there's an adaptor that makes the IR controller equally useable on a Macintosh. Here's my problem, however:
Since Wintel machines have had 2 buttons right from the start, whever code the machine receives from a right-click is unique and recognizeable. In addition to using the left and right arrow keys to go forward or backwards in the slides, presentation applications recognize a left-click to go forward and a right-click to move back a slide. This if fine for Wintel, but since Macs don't come with a second button normally, the button on the Sharp IR controller that is normally a right-click on a Wintel machine does nothing at all on a Mac.
Might there be a little CDEV or something that can tell a Mac to "see" a right-click that is sent to it and map it to whatever keystroke you'd like, such as a left arrow button to move back a slide?

As the most popular QuickTime VR site in Vancouver, I am glad to announce that I am using an iMac as a web server. My iMac is now handling around 10,000 hits a day--well over 100 MB of download.
My old server was a PowerMac 6100/60. While it was working perfectly, the file transfer speed just wasn't spectacular. I was very happy with a PowerMac G3 (233 Mhz) web server that I maintained for someone else. However, the reason I decided to get the iMac for my personal web server was its style. I also wanted to make a statement about how the cheapest Mac available could still handle the traffic.
A big test was during the Christmas holidays when no one was around to take care of the machine. My iMac worked flawlessly without crashing. :-)
I am currently running WebStar 3 and Mac OS 8.5. I am very impressed with the whole system. The download speed is unbelievably fast.
Now, I invite you to visit my iMac.

Date: Mon, 1 Feb 1999 02:05:14 -0800 From: The EvangeList Mailing List <evangelist@apple.com> Subject: ?? - Basic Keyboarding Program for 1 Meg Mac Plus
Walter Scott <mailto:kwscott@netcom.ca>
Several months ago, a Mac Plus (pristine condition) was donated to my elementary school, but was not put into useful service for a couple of reasons: the floppy drive won’t take the 1.4 MB disks, and there is only one meg of RAM installed. Having a bright youngster who has fallen somewhat below grade due to his ADHD status, I suggested to his parents that he might benefit from using the Mac to develop some typing skills, and use it to word process assignments. (His pencil-work suffers significantly from poor motor control.)
An old version of Microsoft Works is installed on the Mac, and runs fine, despite the "insufficient memory" warning which appears on launching. The real glitch is getting a keyboarding program loaded. I tried Typing Tutor, but was notified that 796 K was needed but only 586 K was available. I downloaded a couple of keyboarding programs from CNET, but they were too big. If necessary, I will work on getting a couple of more megs of RAM installed, but that is going to be quite pricey, according to the local Mac dealer.
If there is anyone out there who can direct me to a basic keyboarding program under 550 K, I will be in a great position to move the parents of my student in the direction of a Mac purchase for family use. ( I have already given them an enthusiastic promotional on the iMac...) __________________________ Digital Guy Sez:
Wait a second..."quite pricey"? For four * 1 meg * SIMMs?
People, if anyone out there can recommend a reasonably priced upgrade kit source for this EvangeLista that would probably be better...the old Mac Plus I finally donated to some people up north was actually very usable with four megs.

This request is from:
Ron Wilder <mailto:(mailto:macauthor@aol.com)>
Several members of our ITS department have joined the thousands that have finally realized what we knew all along... Apple is not going away. With that in mind they've decided they better hone up on their skills in repairing and troubleshooting Macs. Unfortunately we have been unable to locate anyplace in the Rochester, New York area that provides such training.
Is anyone aware of someone who conducts training sessions or seminars on repairing and troubleshooting Macs?
