My father bought a iMAC for Christmas but is going to return it because he cannot find a bridge game for it. He said there are plenty of bridge games for a Windoze box, but not for the iMAC. I lobbied hard to get him to upgrade his Mac Plus (tan case) to an iMAC in the face of all other family members pushing for a clone. Any help out there in MacLand?

It appears that Apple's "Think Different" ad campaign influenced more than just potential home computer buyers. American Express is getting ready to start an ad campaign that sounds pretty familiar:
"NEW YORK (Variety) - American Express plans to plaster the visages of famous cardholders ranging from David Geffen to Ice Cube on billboards in New York and Los Angeles.
The ads, created by New York-based Ogilvy & Mather, are so subtle they omit both the celebrities' names and the American Express logo in favor of the green card's background design.
To quote a backgrounder on the campaign, the faces of 'inspirational icons and iconoclasts' will appear on billboards, phone kiosks, postcards and 'wild postings' with the simple line 'member since ...'"

Calvin Hsu <mailto:calvin_hsu@deneba.com>
Deneba announces special Canvas 6 offer for Mac Evangelists
We're very pleased to offer Mac Evangelist subscribers a special deal on Canvas 6, the latest release of our integrated vector illustration, image editing, page layout, and web design program. Deneba has been a long-time supporter of the Mac platform, and the latest version provides Mac graphics users with unprecedented capabilities. Join our "Graphics Revolution" and get Canvas 6 for only $199.95*. PLUS you get the new 2-hour Canvas 6 Video Training set for FREE (a $79.95 value). You can save up to $255 as a Mac Evangelist subscriber!
To order, just go to <https://wws.deneba.com/db.acgi$ordevan>https://wws.deneba.com/db.acgi $ordevan and place your order online. This offer is only available online through January 20, 1999, so don't delay!
Canvas 6 introduces our exclusive SpriteLayer technology as well as 300 new features and feature enhancements. SpriteLayer technology lets you apply transparency effects to any type of object -- text, vector, or bitmap -- and create effects like vignettes, fades, and blends with a single click. It also lets you apply transparency "masks" to any type of object, and the masks can be vector, bitmap or text (this is an industry-first). You can actually use painting tools to "brush transparency" on any object or group of objects. Being able to "airbrush away" a section of a vector illustration is something that was impossible -- until now. And this feature can only be found in Canvas 6.
Canvas 6 also includes 30,000 clip art illustrations and 2,450 URW fonts in Type 1 and TrueType formats. And of course, there's also a 60-day money back guarantee so you have nothing to lose and a lot to save! For more info, visit <http://www.deneba.com>http://www.deneba.com.
Hope you join our Revolution!

Date: Mon, 4 Jan 1999 02:05:32 -0800 From: The EvangeList Mailing List <evangelist@apple.com> Subject: Followup - T1 Wireless Modems For Macs
This follow-up is from:
Greg Haas <mailto:izzaboo@bigfoot.com>
Sorry for such a long wait for my followup. I sent one earlier but it wasn't as complete as this one.
Basically, what I found out from my ISP <http://www.cyberhighway.net> is that their technology is proprietary and they say I won't be able to purchase, from any other source, hardware to allow me to connect to their wireless service. It would not be difficult for them to hoodwink me on any of this (I've always wanted to use "hoodwink" in a sentence).
Here's a piece of correspondence from them:
"The Sheridan Cyberhighway store sells these wireless products representing our corporate headquarters located in Boise [Idaho]... we have, along with all our affiliate stores, required all users who wish to have wireless accounts use our wireless equipment. No other wireless products can work or will work on this wireless network provided by Cyberhighway..."
(Side note: I got this reply to my inquiries the day after receiving the first 30 responses from the EvangeList. You people are quick!)
I did, however, receive some other interesting info from you folks about wireless. Here are some of the URLs that I received in response to my request:
<http://hydra.carleton.ca/info/2400tbl.html>
and
<http://dl0td.afthd.tu-darmstadt.de/~flexnet/>
and
<http://www.ricochet.net>.
The most common recommendations that I received (not in any particular order):
1. Go with a cable modem. 2. Set up an x86 as a router (with the ISA card installed). 3. Wait for a PCI solution.
And that about sums it up. Except some people offered to do more research if I could provide them with more specifics. Unfortunately, I couldn't.
Thank you one and all for your suggestions and interest.

Date: Mon, 4 Jan 1999 02:05:40 -0800 From: The EvangeList Mailing List <evangelist@apple.com> Subject: PR - CDFinder 2.6 Released
This announcement is from:
"Norbert M. Doerner" <mailto:Doerner@kagi.com>
The new version is free for all registered owners of CDFinder and can be obtained from the CDFinder-Homepage <http://people.frankfurt.netsurf.de/nmd/>. A single user license is $15, multi user licenses are available .
CDFinder is a very fast and powerful tool to create catalog files of your hard disks, floppies, ZIP's and anything else that spins. It has a great user interface and very useful search functions. CDFinder supports drag&drop and requires at least a 68020 or PowerPC CPU. While System 7 is required, CDFinder is also fully compatible to MacOS 8.5. A special feature is the multi-lingual user interface (German/French/English/Italian/Swedish).
New features in CDFinder 2.6: - Catalog files of Disk Wizard and Iomega FindIt can be imported. - Catalog windows now can use Finder desktop icons for a much better display. - Catalog files can be arranged in a hierarchy of folders. - Some small bug fixes.
As in the previous versions, CDFinder 2.6 already supports the new Navigation Services of MacOS 8.5. A separate Japanese version will be released soon.
