Charlie Glaize, <cgvoice@charlieglaize.com>
I've had some major Mac breakthroughs recently in my work as a voice talent. Many opportunites have come my way since I framed out a home studio 7 years ago with a Centris 650, an Audiomedia sound card, and the wonderful audio program, Deck II. In fact, while there have been major shifts in the regional marketplace, I've been able to hold my own by being available for commercials and narrations all over the country. The Mac-based studio has enabled me to enlarge my professional universe as well as make me available and flexible to clients' needs. Now, about 50% of my work is from my home studio, including recent voiceovers for Kelloggs and Visa.
These days I use a MAC 8100 / AV with dual monitors, a 4-gig external hard drive and a Jazz drive for storing and/or transporting sessons. I also have the capability to do what is known as a phone patch session (client listens while I perform) by ISDN or for recording on DECK II, then editing and dubbing to DAT for mailing.
As though all this isn't cool enough, a couple of recent breakthroughs I want to report are:
1) Using the internet for sending quality Voiceovers. Amazingly, it is now possible to avoid expensive ISDN sessions and still provide same-day delivery of voiceovers. Check out MPEG Layer 3 technology at sites like:
<http://www.raum.com/mpeg/>
to discover how to send and receive broadcast-quality audio at NO charge! Also, I provide simple Instructions at the DOWNLOAD section of my web page:
<http://www.charlieglaize.com>
2) Providing wav files for PC clients. There are businesses that require voiceovers for multi-media or broadcast who desire wav files. In the past I would have to arrange studio time somewhere or else record into a PC configured to record and store voiceovers in wav files. Now, I arrange for the producer to call at his or her convenience to listen by phone patch while I record from my home studio. I then convert and label sound files from DECK II into wav files, drag them to a PC-formatted Jazz cartridge - and deliver it to my client. I can also post the files at my site or email smaller files as an email attachment.
For further professional advice on these matters, I refer anyone interested to my consultant, Jon Daggett: <http://castlestudios.com/> who also designed my web page.
And, of course, if you'd like a true Mac-head to record your next voiceover .... I'm your guy!

With the help of ammunition from the Evangelist we managed to convince our school district to let us start an all Mac computer graphics department at our highschool. We were given a grant for $23,000 to purchase computers, video accelerators, ram, scanners, printers and software. We have 30 students in the program and would like to set up the computers so they network to the centrally located scanners, printers and storage periferals. We hope to teach the kids the basics in illustration/graphic design and some 3D video work using Lightwave 5.6. Any Evangelistas who have experience in this area of networking multiple computers to one lazer/color inkjet printing/scanning source or those that are informed on excellent, mid prised G3 computers and reliable video, sound and accelerator cards - or any other information which may help us show the MAC to a new generation. Please email me - <ddonovan@lvnexus.net> Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Howdy,
Your item on Postitive S.F. Chronicle article attributes the wrong newspaper. Article in question was by San Francisco Examiner writer. The two papers put out a "combined" Sunday edition but the news, business and sports sections on Sundays are all produced by Hearst's Examiner.
Cordially,

We haven't seen this too often. A publication that hasn't got the syllable 'Mac' in it's name saying something positive about the Mac, with nary a 'belegured' or 'struggling' anywhere.
Quoting the Washington Times:
<http://www.washtimes.com/technology/tech1.html>
"Computer system and display options: While it may seem that Windows 95 is the best --or only -- way to go in selecting a computer for home office use, don't be so certain that you are without options. The Apple Macintosh platform, buoyed by recent product and platform announcements, is a strong alternative."
Ain't it sweet. I even agree with his other comment that a printer and a scanner are better than a single combined device.

Little Blue lives in a Macintosh SE in Tokyo, Japan. She is our office budgie (also known as a parakeet) and can be seen on our PetCam. She has her own email address and web page which has a lot of 'tongue in beak' humor. (Mac users will want to check out the banner at the bottom.)
One of the cool things about the site though is that when someone leaves a message, it is 'spoken' by a Performa using the Princess Macintalk voice. So what things will Little Blue learn how to say in the future? Only time will tell...
See Little Blue at <http://www.badgirl.co.jp/blue> or email her at <blue@badgirl.co.jp>.

This tidbit is from:
Steve Alex, AIDT Montgomery Center, <steve_alex@aidt.edu>
I can't remember which side Mr. Coates writes on, but this one seems to be on both sides. Think I remember some Mac bashing from him in the past, but this article ends with a pretty big bash of inovation at Microsoft. Check out:
"And what does Gates call copying the Apple Menu with the Start button, the Mac folders with Windows folders, the mouse/keyboard wiring, the video display and all these other features revealed to St. Steve on the road to Palo Alto?
"He calls it innovation."
__________________________ Digital Guy Sez:
Yes, Coates is a tough critic of the Mac, originally more so than the PC. However, Mr. Coates has proven himself to be VERY honorable, admitting that his stance may have been a bit too extreme. While he still comes down hard on the Mac, he now comes down harder on Microsoft, a company he supported whole heartedly, only to to have the same trouble and frustration with Microsofts Windows OS that a lot of others (including myself!) have had to contend with.
A public "thank you" to Mr. Coates for acknowledging the root of EvangeListas frustration! :)

Greetings everyone!
I have just completed a huge update to my Web site:
The Law Office Software List for the Macintosh Computer
<http://www.mother.com/~randy/index.html>
(A comprehensive list of all the available software for law office use on the Macintosh computer, the premier computer for attorneys! Well over 170 products are listed!)
Since the last revision of the site, I have added: about 40 new listings (many of which are in the category of time/billing/accounting software, the type of software I get asked about the most); a lot of substantive information about such things as networking your Mac and compatibility with PC's; and I have added over 100 updates to the site.
Please spread the word about this update! Thanks!
