Spider Island Spins a New Web By Macworld Staff BBS vendor announces TeleFinder update Spider Island Software has announced TeleFinder 5.1, an update to its Mac-based Internet and BBS server that features faster performance and enhanced HTML functions. The software, which allows users to maintain a Web site and BBS from a single server, is especially popular among service bureaus and media outlets. New features in the update include: Server Parsed HTML (SPML) This allows authors to create Web pages that adjust content based on the client's browser, platform, time of day, and other factors. SPML can also execute CGI programs, insert content from other files, and generate statistics about visits to specific pages. Dynamic File Caching This feature increases performance up to 400 percent, Spider Island says, by serving files from memory. Virtual Hosting This allows a single server to support multiple Web sites, each with its own domain name. Also included is a new Windows client, updated for Windows 95, that supports TeleFinder's View by Thumbnail feature. Users of TeleFinder 4.0 and 5.0 can upgrade for free. Users of previous versions can upgrade for $95. The retail price is $675. Pricing includes Macintosh and Windows clients that can be freely distributed to users.
