Layers
Layers are used to virtually stack multiple images together to for a single image.
You can view, hide, adjust the opacity, and change the stack order of your layers in this view:
You can also drag and drop layers between images by holding down the command and control keys, and dragging from the original image to the image you'd like to add the layer to.
There are two types of layers in Acorn, bitmap layers and shape layers.
Bitmap layers work by doing operations on the pixels of an image. This is the most common type of image manipulation. You can use tools such as the brush, gradient, fill, and marque tools on these types of layers. You can also apply image filters to bitmap layers.
Shape layers work by creating and manipulating vector shapes. Creating text also falls under this layer. If you want to create circles, rectangles, or lines this is the layer for you.
(If you want to save your image without flattening the layers, you need to choose "Acorn" as the file type. Acorn does not support saving layers in any other image format.)
