Rumpus 1.3 User's Guide

About this Guide, Getting Help and Requirements

About this Guide

This User Guide describes how to configure Rumpus to serve files using the File Transfer Protocol (FTP). This manual does not explain how to install or configure the Mac OS, MacTCP, or Open Transport, but does introduce the basics of File Sharing. Please see the documentation that came with your Mac for information on these topics.

All examples and screen shots in this document were made using Mac OS 8. If you are using an earlier version, the windows and controls may look different from the ones pictured in this guide.

Getting Help

There are three ways for you to get help if you have a problem:

  1. The place to start is the Maxum Web site:

    http://www.maxum.com/

    Here you will find:

    • Software updates.

    • Complete on-line documentation.

    • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

    • Other timely information.

  2. If the answer to your question isn't at our Web site, please send e-mail to:

    support@maxum.com

We'll get your question answered quickly and in many cases post your question to the FAQ list (in addition to replying directly to you by e-mail).

  3. Finally, you might want to subscribe to the Rumpus mailing list. For information, go to:

    http://www.maxum.com/maillists.html

The quality of the comments and help on this list is exceptional.

System Requirements

Rumpus is an Open Transport-native fat binary that runs on 68K or PowerPC Macintosh or Macintosh clones. Rumpus has the following additional requirements:

Rumpus does not install any Control Panels, Extensions, or other system patches. A folder named "Rumpus Folder" is created in the Preferences folder inside your System Folder, which contains all Rumpus preference and support files, as well as the default FTP log files. Deleting this folder and restarting Rumpus will return Rumpus to it's default settings.
