Manual Commands
To allow more control over Mail Server, there are several manual commands available in the "Server" menu. These commands are optional, they are either performed automatically by Mail Server at various intervals, or performed via a schedule item. This section describes each command.Retrieve Incoming Messages
The "Retrieve incoming messages" command instructs Mail Server to import any messages that may be pending. This includes messages from any gateways. Normally Mail Server will perform this task every few minutes, but for testing purposes it can be performed immediately using this command.
Send Outgoing Mail
The "Send Outgoing Mail" command instructs Mail Server to deliver any messages that may be have been sent from a BBS user. Normally Mail Server will perform this task every 30 seconds, but for testing purposes it can be performed immediately using this command.
Send Outgoing News
The "Send Outgoing News" command instructs Mail Server to export any new topic messages that have been posted by BBS users. Normally Mail Server will perform this task every five minutes, but for testing purposes it can be performed immediately using this command.
Exchange Messages with a BBS
The "Exchange Messages with a BBS" command instructs Mail Server to make a TeleFinder BBS Gateway connection with another BBS. Mail Server has options that can be specified for this command.
The "BBS" pop-up menu is used to select the gateway that is to be used. See the section "Using the TeleFinder BBS Gateway" for details on how to setup this type of gateway.
The "Try for" field allows you to specify how many minutes Mail Server will attempt to make a connection with this BBS.
The "Disconnect user" option allows you to disconnect a BBS user that may be online during the time of the event. If this option is OFF, a user will not be disconnected, however the call may not be made if the user does not logoff before the "Try for" interval expires. If this option is on, Mail Server will warn the user on the BBS that a pending call is about to be made.
The "Delay between call attempts" specified how many minutes to wait between calls until a call is successful.
Trim Message Topics
The "Trim Message Topics" command instructs Mail Server to remove any extra messages that have accumulated in the message topics due to a previous import. It is recommended that this task be performed in a schedule at least once a day, but it can be performed immediately using this command.
