Change file ownership & permissions & empty the Trash
(File Size: 1.4M)
What's new in this version:
* Fixed a bug where ownership would not be changed in some situations
* Fixed localisation issues
* New about box... ;-)
BatChmod is a Cocoa utility for manipulating file and folder privileges in Mac OS X (10.1 recommended). It allows the manipulation of ownership as well as the privileges associated to the Owner, Group or others. Here are some of the characteristics of BatChmod:
* It's simple and elegant
* It allows one to change any specific privilege or ownership without affecting the others (ie, changing the group without affecting the owner, or adding or removing a specific privilege without affecting all the others)
* It can recursively affect enclosed folders
* It's basically a mix of the Unix commands chown, chgrp and chmod...
* it can Force Empty the Trash

BrickHouse is designed to make using the network firewall built in to Mac OS X quick and easy. By using BrickHouse to enable your computer's firewall, you can help prevent unauthorized villians from gaining access to your computer via your internet connection. BrickHouse also helps you use your firewall to guard against denial of service or resource-based internet attacks. Network attacks will bounce off the firewall to prevent your computer from slowing down or crashing. Requires a Power Mac and Mac OS X 10.1 or later.

|Carbon Copy Cloner v1.3.2b6 (CCC) is a cloning utility developed with AppleScript Studio. The purpose of Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) is to assist you in backing up or moving your Mac OS X installation from one partition to another as easily as possible. The tools you need are already installed with Mac OS X; CCC makes using them easy! Check out this comprehensive guide to backing up and cloning Mac OS X for more details on the plumbing behind the process.
Also, CCC 1.3.2b6 only runs on Mac OS 10.2 and above (again, though, v. 1.3.2b6 can clone older systems, just not while booted from the older systems). This was not an easy decision, but I don't think I've left 10.1.x users in the cold; v. 1.3.1 is really quite good, and as good as it could get given the OS limitations. Committing to 10.2 exclusively meant that I could drop a lot of hack code that existed to workaround problems solved many OS versions ago. I was able to reduce the amount of code used by about 15% and offer some really nice optimizations resulting in a faster and sturdier application. If you would like to clone your 10.1.5 system before upgrading to Jaguar, use CCC version 1.3.1 instead.

Free up extra space on your hard drive with this OS X utility. DeLocalizer will remove all non-American English localization resources. Localization resources provide the language support for an application-all strings of text that an application uses are defined in a localization file. Mac OS X also includes non-English localization files for people who speak other languages. While this is a wonderful technique for easily bringing applications to other languages, it can use up more space than you may be willing if you plan on using no more than one language. Requires a G3 or faster Mac and Mac OS X 10.1.3 or later.

Invisible Prefs also gives you the option of deleting those preferences and saving them to a folder. Finding and deleting preferences is the extent of Invisible Prefs' functionality at this time, but it's always helpful to be able to get rid of unwanted information lurking on your computer.

For those who turn off their Mac every night, this freeware utility runs the Mac OS X maintenance tasks that are set to typically run between 3am and 5am. If you shut off your Mac at night and the series of tasks aren't allowed to run, your Mac's log files can grow very large and prevent system databases from getting backed up. With MacJanitor, you can run these scripts manually without having to use the Terminal to keep your Mac OS X machine in top racing form. Requires a Power Mac and Mac OS X 10.1 or later.

ramBunctious is a RAM disk program that provides basic RAM disk functionality for OS X. ramBunctious maintains the advantages and eliminates the disadvantages of most RAM disk programs. Several options let you customize the app for your desired balance of speed, security, safety, and versatility. For example, you can set it to write through to a file on a (real) disk for safety in the event of a crash. You can mount as many RAM disks as you wish (or as many as you have memory for) simultaneously. ramBunctious uses the same memory that applications use, so the memory used for each RAM disk is instantly available for other applications when the RAM disk is put away. Requires a G3 or faster Mac and Mac OS X or later.

Share My Desktop (SMD) is a simple little wrapper application that I created for OSXvnc in AppleScript Studio. SMD makes initiating a VNC server very simple -- just click a button!
VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. "It is, in essence, a remote display system which allows you to view a computing 'desktop' environment not only on the machine where it is running, but from anywhere on the Internet and from a wide variety of machine architectures." VNC technology was developed by AT&T Laboratories.
SMD was developed as a tool to offer better support from the Tech Support staff. SMD can be installed on client systems, so if the client needs assistance, they can call the Tech Support staff, initiate the VNC server, and give the Tech Support staff the connection information. When the Tech Support staff is able to share the client's screen, they can SHOW the client what they need to do to fix a problem, rather than try to guide them by voice alone.
Using Share My Desktop
* Mac OS 10.1.2 with the BSD subsystem installed (which is installed by default).
