Anyone who has gotten out of bed and gone to the office to restart a crashed server in the middle of the night will find the combination of PowerKey Pro and the Server Restart Option a necessary addition to their system!
PowerKey Pro is the world's smartest power strip, providing six outlets for your computer and peripherals. PowerKey Pro allows you to start up or shut down your entire system with one keystroke, provides user-definable scheduling, helps conserve energy, enables you to control your system power with a phone call, and more. The Server Restart Option activates features in PowerKey Pro which assist you in detecting crashed Mac OS-based computers and successfully restarting them.
The Server Restart Option is available as an upgrade for PowerKey Pro Model 200. The SRO installer modifies the programming in your PowerKey Pro unit, enabling several extra features.
Bonus! For a limited time, the Server Restart Option comes bundled free with PowerKey Pro Model 600!
Features of the Server Restart Option
- System crash detection -- When the Server Restart Option is installed, the PowerKey Pro software "pings" the hardware every ten seconds. If the computer crashes, the software fails, and this communication stops. After a user-definable waiting period, the hardware decides that the computer has crashed.
- Automatic restart -- You can create a PowerKey event which will execute when the computer has crashed. This event can restart the computer, add an entry to a log file, and/or open any desired applications or AppleScripts.
PowerKey Pro restarts the computer by turning its outlet off, then back on. If the computer is not plugged into one of PowerKey's switched outlets, it will do a keyboard restart (Command + Control + "Power On" key).
- Action logging -- events can be logged by PowerKey Pro, providing a complete history of PowerKey Pro's activities. You can specify the message contents for each entry and the maximum size allowable for the log file.
- User timer -- custom applications that wish to make sure they do not stop execution can periodically "ping" the PowerKey Pro software with an Apple Event. If the application should stop running, PowerKey Pro can relaunch the application, restart the computer, or perform a variety of additional functions.
